Video Series on Depression and Suicide Awareness Gets Ready for Mental Health Awareness Month
By Michelle Price
May is Mental Health Awareness month and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is already sharing content to help the public understand why we should talk about and research depression and suicide. AFSP has created a 12 part video series as a result of a recent International Summit on Suicide Research in October of 2015. The series focuses on topics such as:
- Are you Okay? How to Talk to Young People About Suicide
- From Research to Treatment
- Teens, Drinking & Suicide – What Every Parent Should Know
- Using Technology to Fight Suicide; Why We Need to Fund Suicide Prevention Research
- And more…
Each video you watch is a quick and easy way to educate yourself on how you can help the people you know and love. This series will span the month of April. Be sure to “Like” Helpline of Delaware and Morrow Counties, Inc. on Facebook to keep up-to-date with the videos.
If you are living with depression or are thinking of suicide be sure to reach out. You are not alone and things can get better. Some ways to reach out locally are:
- Talk to a trusted friend or family member
- Make an appointment with a counselor
- Go to your doctor and tell them how you’ve been feeling
- Call or Text Helpline
- Delaware: 740-369-3316
- Morrow: 419-947-2520
- Or Text “Helpline” to 898211
Celebrate Mental Health Awareness month by taking care of yourself and those around you. Together we can hold each other up and move through the darkness into the light.
