COLUMBUS, Ohio —
With the school year starting, thousands of Central Ohio children are facing anxiety over being a target of bullying and exclusion.
But the Thank Goodness I’m Female (TGIF) mentorship program is designed to downgrade the drama among middle school aged girls by reversing the environment that fosters bullying.
Putting a new spin on musical chairs, the odd girl out of the group reveals a little about herself. The game is part of a Girls Kick Butt Day, an outgrowth of the TGIF program. The program aims at making the school hallways a bully-free, drama-free zone.
It’s a cross-county collaborative effort between Youth to Youth and Helpline of Delaware & Morrow Counties, Inc. Helpline is the funded agency by The Central Ohio Women’s Fund for TGIF.
“The Central Ohio Women’s Fund who gave us the grant did a study of girls and said drama and bullying were one of the top three issues most important to them,” said Stephanie Christie, a TGIF leader.
