Millions of workers experience violence or the threat of violence in the workplace every year. These violent acts can range from physical assault to homicide and are the second leading cause of occupational injury. Connections Volunteer Center, a program of HelpLine, is here to help by offering a workshop, “Surviving Workplace Violence” on January 30 at Center for Older Adults from 9:00 am – 12:15 pm.
The training offered will empower participants to recognize and assess a threat; recognize the causes of workplace violence; explore actions to take if violence occurs and personal safety tactics to become your own bodyguard.
“Many of our past participants have expressed a concern for personal safety when attending home and offsite visits.” said Erin Coss, Training Coordinator at Connections “Officer Glazer is excellent at identifying areas of concern and encouraging participants to examine objects and avenues they may not have previously considered as possible methods of defense.”
Not only is violence in the workplace an issue but schools are seeing the massive effect of violence as well. The violence prevention and crisis response experts at HelpLine are local community resources that can provide organizations and schools with free technical assistance as policies are developed or modified relating to violence prevention, including bullying and harassment. We reach hundreds of students from pre-school age to college age each year. HelpLine is actively working to make Delaware and Morrow County workplaces and schools safer for all residents.
