I “moustache” you…what gives your life purpose?
HelpLine of Delaware and Morrow Counties (HelpLine) and the Delaware Suicide Prevention Coalition (DSPC) are dedicated to community involvement and education. On Friday, May 1st, DSPC staffed a table at the first Friday of the month event in downtown Delaware. Several volunteers provided fun activities for kids and their parents to participate in, including making Hope Stones for HelpLine’s Hope Garden and creating a “moustache mural” of Delaware inhabitants’ responses to the question, “What gives your life purpose?” The mural encouraged participants to think of the events, activities, and people in their lives that provide useful support systems when feeling depressed or suicidal. The items listed – including friends, family, sports teams, and many more – are buffers against suicide in our community!
The team handed out information regarding the Annual Suicide Prevention Walk, taking place Saturday, September 12th , 10am – 12pm, in Bicentennial Park in historic downtown Delaware, as well as information for its various community education presentations. These programs include Signs of Distress training for community members of any age, Signs of Suicide and Depression for Middle Schoolers and High Schoolers, and Motivational Interviewing for Suicide Risk.
