Taking a senior role in the organization, the Associate Director provides operational leadership in the programmatic and administrative realms. Specific areas of responsibility include organizational leadership and development, program development and implementation, as well as financial and administrative oversight as needed. Familiar with a variety of the mental health and prevention field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complex tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. The Associate Director reports to, and works closely with, the Executive Director, and has regular contact with members of the Board, staff and program staff and volunteers, based in all offices in covered service areas. This exempt position is regular, full time (40 hours per week).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizational Leadership and Development (25%)
The Associate Director plays a critical role in organizational leadership and development, including:
- Partnering with the Executive Director to monitor and evaluate organizational development for continuous improvement
- Shaping and implementing organizational priorities and organizational infrastructure to support the realization of strategic goals
- Designing and facilitating organizational processes for strategic planning, budgeting and review, employee evaluation and organizational learning
- Supporting the Executive Director to implement, monitor and evaluate institutional policies, strategic plans and systems
- Presenting information, analysis and stories about programs to different audiences, including funders
- Attend all board meetings and work on board committees
- Assist with fundraising responsibilities as needed
- Lead agency in absence of Executive Director
Program (50%)
The Associate Director plays a vital role and works closely with program Supervisors and the Executive Director to develop and realize program outcomes. Responsibilities include:
- Helping define programmatic vision and strategy
- Developing program policies and strategies
- Overseeing the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs
- Managing and integrating programmatic learning across the organization
- Supervising assigned staff.
- Ensuring effective due diligence and compliance with grants
- Providing guidance and strategic direction.
- Overseeing grants, including reviewing and editing multiple drafts
- Oversee Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement process; work with QA committee to implement plan and activities
Finance, Human Resources & Administration (25%)
The Associate Director assists with the following administrative/fiscal functions, including:
- Assist Executive Director and Fiscal Director with developing policies and ensuring sound procedures for fiscal control, risk management, contract and legal compliance as needed
- Assist with the development and monitoring of the organizational budget
- Assist ED and FD with financial reporting
- Support FD in absence of ED
- Oversee/assist with the development of human resources and administrative policies and procedures
- Assist ED in overseeing the recruitment and retention of qualified program staff and volunteers; managing the performance evaluation process
Shared Responsibilities of All Team Members:
In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities listed above, all team members are expected to contribute to the following shared responsibilities:
- Participate in management team planning & evaluation processes
- Contribute to organizational and strategic planning processes
- Be available on call for administrative support after hours; attend evening meetings and events as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Experience
- Master’s degree required; LISW-S, or LPCC preferred
- 5+ years in non‐profit management roles, including program and administrative experience
- Proven organizational capacity builder
- Knowledge of and experience in the areas of non‐profit fiscal and HR management preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of grant writing/management preferred
- Practical experience of program planning and implementation
- Sound knowledge of program evaluation principles
- Extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of mental health, prevention & intervention
- Appreciation of diversity

- Proven track record of attracting resources and partnerships and managing external relations
- Impeccable integrity, positive attitude, mission‐driven and self‐directed
- Fundraising experience a plus
